Regulatory Commission Responds to Narek Karapetyan's Statement on Electricity Tariff Reduction

The Regulatory Commission has responded to Narek Karapetyan's statement that electricity tariffs for households could be reduced by 3 drams, noting that this claim does not correspond to reality.

In the Commission's announcement, it is stated that such a proposal has never been presented to the Commission. According to the announcement, the proposal submitted by the Electricity Distribution Network for June 2025 was in relation to a reduction of 3.6 billion drams in additional profits and compensation for investments, which could have affected the tariff by only 0.2 drams.

The Commission emphasized that both the 3.6 billion and the currently formed 6 billion drams in additional profits are not related to the efficiency of the Electricity Distribution Network's operations, but arise from the difference between planned and actual volumes of electricity production and consumption.

The Commission also reminded that previously the Electricity Distribution Network has regularly submitted proposals that could have led to rate increases if accepted. Notably, in September 2024, the company proposed to increase the norm of net profit by 2%, which was rejected by the Regulatory Commission.

The Commission stated that the change in tariff depends on many factors, and in order to assess them, the process of reviewing tariffs in the system began on September 15. The results will be announced by the end of the year.

Additionally, the Commission has added that if the Electricity Distribution Network wished to lower the tariff, it could do so at its own profit without applying to the Regulatory Commission.
