Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Under Investigation in the 'Pedagogical University Case'
The law enforcement agencies, investigating the case of the Rector of Khachatur Abovian Armenian State Pedagogical University, Srbuhi Gevorgyan, are increasingly focusing on the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports. Earlier, 'Hraparak' reported that law enforcement officers visited the ministry and requested several documents.
New details have emerged regarding the situation. It turns out that the focus is on a contract signed by the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, Zhanna Andreasian, upon the recommendation of her associate, Rector Srbuhi Gevorgyan.
According to official documents obtained by the newspaper, the University’s Board of Trustees adopted decision number 39 on March 31, 2025, which approved a contract for a deposit of 50 million AMD in one of the banks of Armenia for a period of one year, aimed at obtaining 'additional income' for the university.
The terminology of 'additional income' has raised questions among law enforcement, as the interest from bank deposits is a legal source of income for the foundation and thus cannot be classified as 'additional' income. However, it is particularly controversial that Zhanna Andreasian, who is the chairperson of the university’s Board of Trustees, personally signed this decision.
