Karapetyan's Defense Team Issues Statement
The Anti-Corruption Court partially granted the investigative team's petition on October 16, 2025, extending the detention of businessman and national benefactor Samvel Karapetyan by one month.
This was announced by Karapetyan's defense team. According to the lawyers' statement, the court has once again noted that there remains a lack of reasonable suspicion regarding the economic offenses attributed to Karapetyan from July.
It is mentioned that the investigative team did not close the proceedings but instead re-included the same allegations under the name of new evidence in their petition.
According to the lawyers, the court also found that the new accusations presented on October 7 also lack reasonable suspicion. However, the court confirmed the part relating to the businessman’s interview, qualifying it as a call to seize power by force.
The defense has appealed this decision in the Court of Appeals, labeling it as unlawful. The statement also notes that the Supreme Court rejected their appeal while accepting the one presented by the Prosecutor General’s Office. The lawyers regarded this as a manifestation of 'renunciation of legal processes' and political persecution.
