The Judicial System is Politicized: Sargsyan on the Arrest of the Masis Mayor
It is clear that the judicial system is politicized, and judges depend on one individual. This statement was made by the third president, Serzh Sargsyan, during a conversation with journalists.
He also addressed the detention of Masis Mayor David Hambardzumyan, noting that the timeframe applied was such that it would not affect the potential amnesty in the future. "It is obvious that European institutions will not react, as they clearly support the authorities," Sargsyan said.
It should be noted that David Hambardzumyan was detained yesterday at the Zvartnots airport. He has been sentenced to 6 years and 3 months in prison. The judge has also revoked the bail and applied detention.
Recall that the Masis mayor was charged with violations, particularly for disrupting public order and using violence against protesters during the regime change in 2018.
