New Changes Regarding Gas Stations

Starting January 1, 2026, a new requirement will be enforced in Armenia, stipulating that all previously constructed and currently operating gas stations must adapt their facilities to comply with the new technical safety requirements through re-equipment and reconstruction. This was announced by Garegin Khachatryan, the head of the State Supervision Service for Construction, Technical, and Fire Safety, during a discussion in the National Assembly regarding a question posed by Civil Contract faction MP Arusyak Manavazyan.

Arusyak Manavazyan highlighted the potential dangers posed by gas stations that are located right on the sidewalks in Yerevan, near residential buildings. She inquired about the outcomes expected from the amendments to the relevant legislation. Manavazyan noted that the changes are quite significant. “In the previous period, the operations of 276 gas stations were suspended by the supervisory authority, of which 71 were dismantled as a result of joint efforts with partner agencies. If we compare this figure with the work done over the previous 30 years, we can clearly grasp the scale of the challenge ahead,” Khachatryan stated.

He mentioned that a subordinate legislative act had been adopted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs this year, establishing new technical requirements for gas stations, which will come into effect on January 1, 2026. “The subordinate legislative act stipulates that within one year, all previously constructed and currently operating gas stations must adapt their facilities through re-equipment and reconstruction to meet the accepted new technical safety requirements,” added the head of the supervision service.
