Cameras in Prisons: Surbhi Galayan

In Armenia, it is planned to monitor correctional facilities with technical means, specifically cameras. This was stated by the Minister of Justice of the Republic of Armenia, Surbhi Galayan, during a joint session of the permanent commissions of the National Assembly discussing the preliminary review of the draft law on the state budget for 2026.

“We have studied and found that not all correctional facilities are equipped with electric generators. A competition for the procurement of generators has now been announced. In our next program, we intend to implement external perimeter monitoring of correctional facilities with technical means, meaning that the facility should be monitored by cameras,” said Galayan. According to her, the financial evaluation and expenditure burden for this initiative is included in this year’s budget.
