Armenia Achieves 2030 Energy Target Four Years Early, Says Khudatyan

Armenia has reached its strategic goal of having a production capacity of 1000 MW of solar energy four years ahead of the scheduled 2030 target. This announcement was made by Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Davit Khudatyan during a joint meeting of the permanent commissions of the National Assembly.

The minister noted that Armenia currently has over 1000 MW of installed solar power plants, indicating the effective implementation of the program. He emphasized that the cessation of the subsidy program is conditional, as the budget for 2026 will still include interest subsidies.

“We are discussing the continuation of the subsidy program, focusing on the installation of battery storage systems. We can also subsidize the installation of batteries in already operational plants, as having power plants with 1000 MW capacity poses certain challenges in the energy system,” Khudatyan said.

According to him, the productivity of solar plants depends on hours of daylight and seasonality, which sometimes creates instability in the system. However, Armenia's energy block continues to ensure stable operation.

“By the Prime Minister's directive, we are not hindering the development of the sector, and we are now considering a new launch of the subsidy program—either alongside battery storage systems or solely for them,” the minister added.
