Orban to Meet Trump in Washington Over Russian Sanctions

The Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orban, is scheduled to make an official visit to the United States next week to meet with President Donald Trump. The main topic of discussion will be the new energy sanctions imposed on Russia, which affect European markets.

In recent weeks, for the first time since the start of the war in Ukraine, the Trump administration has imposed sanctions on major Russian companies such as Lukoil and Rosneft. This move has raised concerns in several European countries, particularly Hungary and Slovakia, which remain heavily dependent on Russian oil.

Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto announced that the agenda for Orban's meeting with Trump has been nearly finalized. According to him, Budapest intends to raise the issue of national energy security and seek to avoid restrictions that could harm Hungary's economy.

Although Orban has previously criticized Trump for pursuing an overly aggressive policy towards Russia, experts note that Budapest is attempting to maintain a delicate balance between Moscow and Washington while protecting its energy interests.
