Lavrov Claims US Has Changed Position on Ukraine Due to European Pressure

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has stated that Washington is striving for a ceasefire due to the influence of European leaders.

Lavrov announced that the Trump administration has altered its approach to the resolution of the war in Ukraine. According to Lavrov, previously Washington advocated for a long-term and negotiated solution, whereas now it seeks to quickly achieve a ceasefire.

He linked this change to the pressure exerted by European leaders, specifically Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte and French President Emmanuel Macron. “The Europeans are trying to pressure the US administration to reach an immediate ceasefire,” he stated.

According to him, the White House is under “unprecedented pressure” from both European allies and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Lavrov emphasized that Moscow does not intend to intervene in these internal discussions.

The minister recalled that as recently as February, Russia had ruled out the option of “freezing” the conflict along the front line, calling it unconstitutional. He reiterated that Ukraine must rid itself of “discriminatory laws,” according to Moscow.
