Latvia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs: We Do Not Use the Term 'Zangezur Corridor' in Official Documents
The statement by Edgar Skuya, Latvia's ambassador to Azerbaijan, regarding the 'Zangezur Corridor' has sparked media interest and the need for clarification. In an interview published on October 21 in the Azerbaijani press, the ambassador noted that this corridor could become an important route for developing transport and logistics connections from the East to Europe and vice versa.
In response to a query from the 'Chronicles of the Caucasus' publication, the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs clarified that the wording used in the publication reflects the lexicon accepted in the public discourse of Azerbaijan. The ministry stated that Latvia respects international agreements and the positions of partner countries, avoiding the use of ambiguous terms.
In official documents and statements, Latvia adheres to the definitions enshrined in the agreement signed in Washington on August 8, 2025, which reflect the common position of Armenia, Azerbaijan, and international partners. 'Latvia supports the development of regional transport projects based on the principles of respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity. We welcome the progress made towards peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan,' stated the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
