EU May Issue Joint Debt to Support Ukraine
The European Union is considering the option of taking on joint debt to provide continued support for Ukraine. As reported by Politico, several member states have proposed implementing a joint financing mechanism that has been used previously in programs designed to mitigate the economic impact of COVID-19.
According to sources, the initiative is seen as a means to ensure long-term financial stability for Kyiv, as the EU budget is already under significant strain. The new debt instrument could be directed toward both Ukraine's budgetary needs and the restoration of its infrastructure.
Discussions are still in the early stages, and a final decision has yet to be made. Meanwhile, several member countries have expressed concerns about the potential impact of increased joint debt on the EU's financial system.
