Grandson of Vardan Ghukasyan Arrested for Participating in Mass Disorders
The court has decided to arrest Gevorg Ghukasyan, the grandson of Vardan Ghukasyan, a member of the Gyumri City Council and community leader. This information was reported by the Investigative Committee to 1lurer.am.
During the preliminary investigation of the criminal case, evidence was obtained regarding activities intended to obstruct the investigative actions conducted by investigators at the Anti-Corruption Committee of the Republic of Armenia on October 20, 2025, at the administrative building of the Gyumri City Hall. A group of individuals gathered near the administrative building, including at the entrances and within the building itself, intervening in the investigation and committing mass disorders threatening public safety.
Specifically, they shouted calls to block the entrances to the municipal administrative building to prevent the transfer of detainees and individuals present in the building, damaged the tires of police service vehicles, and the property of the municipal administrative building. During these events, they applied violence against police officers to obstruct their lawful operational activities, threw lighters and bottles at them, and made insulting remarks towards them.
A public criminal prosecution has been initiated against 19 individuals under Article 327, Part 1 of the Criminal Code (participating in mass disorders) and Article 486, Part 2, Clause 1 (interference in the administration of justice or examination of a case by a group of persons by prior agreement). Additionally, 10 individuals are facing charges under Article 486, Part 2, Clause 1 and Article 327, Part 1 for inciting participation in mass disorders. The preliminary investigation of the criminal case is ongoing.
It is worth noting that two days ago, a petition was submitted to the court for the arrest of 19 of the 37 individuals apprehended near the Gyumri City Hall as a measure of restraint.
