Russia Opposes Trump's Idea: Lavrov
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Sergey Lavrov, has stated that calls for an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine contradict the agreements reached during the meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin in Alaska. This was reported by RIA Novosti.
“Now from Washington, it has started to sound like we should stop immediately and no longer discuss anything. To stop, and let history take its course. Do you understand, if we simply stop, it means forgetting about the radical causes of this conflict, which the American administration clearly understood when Donald Trump took power,” Lavrov declared.
According to Lavrov, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s “European sponsors and patrons” are trying to persuade the Americans to change their position and abandon the pursuit of a “long-term settlement.” He noted that “this approach is entirely contrary to what Presidents Trump and Putin agreed upon in Anchorage when they decided to focus on the radical causes of the conflict.”
