Did Catholicos Aram I Leave Karekin II Alone Against Pashinyan?
The Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia, Aram I, has sent Archbishop Shahen Sargsyan to Armenia to negotiate with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. The leader of the 'My Way' movement announced that they came to negotiate with the Prime Minister to demand that he cease pressures and the movement against the Catholicos's authority. This was reported by the newspaper ‘Zhoghavor’.
This information surfaced after the release of photographs by the Government of meetings between the Prime Minister and the President of Armenia.
According to reports from the newspaper, there is concern within the Armenian Apostolic Church regarding the fact that Catholicos Aram I does not seem to be making sufficient efforts to prevent the pressures against the Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II.
It is noted that currently three diocesan leaders are in custody in the Republic of Armenia: Archbishop Mikhael, Archbishop Bagrat, and Bishop Proshyan.
As pointed out by the newspaper according to ecclesiastical sources, the Cilician Catholicosate seems somewhat distant from the fight against the repressions carried out by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan against the Catholicos of All Armenians, due to long-standing disagreements between the parties.
