Yerevan Deputy Mayor Elected as New President of Shirak
I have been elected as the president of the Shirak football club in Gyumri. It is a great honor to take on the leadership of the main club of my hometown. This was announced by Yerevan Deputy Mayor Tigran Virabyan on his Facebook page.
“I am confident that together with Shirak's legendary fans, coaching, and professional staff, we will be able to create a strong team, the core of which will consist of the graduates of Gyumri's football academy. We are creating an environment where the students of Shirak's youth academy will have the opportunity to showcase their talents in the main team, getting as much playing time as possible in the top league games.
I would also like to mention that this upcoming season should be seen as a transitional one, aimed at laying a solid foundation for championship results in the following seasons. The fans have always played a special role for Shirak. We understand that recent developments may have caused some concerns; however, I want to assure everyone that aside from this transitional period, the expectations of competing for higher places remain unchanged.
I also plan to meet with the fans soon to present the team's plans and goals in detail. I would like to thank former president Arman Sahakyan for his brilliant ten years with Shirak. I am confident that Mr. Sahakyan will continue to be present with the club in the coming decades.
P.S. For my journalistic colleagues, I would like to note that the position of club president is entirely compatible with my role as Deputy Mayor of Yerevan.”
