What Expectations Does Moscow Have from the Putin-Trump Meeting

Moscow believes that the upcoming meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump should be used to discuss bilateral relations between Russia and the U.S., stated Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the Russian President.

“We can also use the upcoming meeting in Budapest to discuss our bilateral relations,” Peskov told reporters when asked what Moscow expects from the upcoming summit.

Last Thursday, President Vladimir Putin had a phone conversation with President Donald Trump, marking one of the longest calls since the beginning of 2025. Among other issues, they discussed the situation surrounding Ukraine. Following the conversation, Trump announced his intention to hold a personal meeting with Putin in Budapest.
