This is not a legal process, but a scenario for political retribution: Ananyan on Vardan Ghukasyan's arrest
Regardless of the basis on which investigative actions are being conducted in the Gyumri City Hall and under what legal justifications Vardan Ghukasyan's arrest is taking place, the crude and demonstrative nature of the selected actions clearly indicates one thing: this is not a legal process, but a scenario for political retribution.
What is happening traces back to the direct "instruction" sounded from the Prime Minister's podium in the National Assembly about a month ago, which has become a signal to leverage the tools of political persecution.
This was stated by Davit Ananyan, a member of the political initiative "Wings of Unity." Ananyan noted, "All this once again proves that the current government continues to operate not in accordance with the logic of a rule of law, but with a program to ensure its reproduction through fear and terror. The government is trying to reorganize its existence through pressures, demonstrative arrests, and ‘trial shows’ against political opponents.
This kind of behavior not only undermines the foundations of statehood but also definitively reveals the fact that this government lacks de facto legitimacy. A legitimate government does not resort to terrorist methods to demonstrate its power and maintain its political existence. What we are witnessing today is nothing but a political terror applied as a result of the existential fear of those in power against democratic institutions, society, and public trust.
