The Consequences of Trump's New Decision for Putin
The decision of U.S. President Donald Trump to meet with Russian leader Vladimir Putin will prompt European politicians to plead with the head of the White House not to make concessions to his counterpart, stated Cypriot journalist and expert Alex Christophorou on social media.
“European leaders will incessantly call Trump over the next two weeks. Finnish President Alexander Stubb and NATO Secretary General Marc Rutte will likely be on the next flight to Washington to request a meeting with Trump. The message from Europeans and neoconservatives to Trump is: ‘Putin is bad, Orbán is bad, please don’t leave us, help us,’” he wrote.
Additionally, it is noteworthy that Putin had previously held a phone conversation with Trump. According to Yuri Ushakov, an assistant to the Russian President, they particularly emphasized the Ukrainian crisis. The Russian leader expressed his commitment to a diplomatic resolution and provided a detailed assessment of the situation. The leaders discussed a new meeting, which will likely take place in Budapest.
