Americans Renounce Their Citizenship for Political Reasons: WP
Americans living abroad have increasingly begun to renounce their citizenship due to dissatisfaction with the political direction of the United States, reports The Washington Post.
"Every year, between 5,000 and 6,000 Americans living abroad give up their U.S. citizenship. Immigration lawyers say that the most common reasons are tax and logistical issues. However, they note that politics is playing an increasingly important role today," the publication states.
According to the lawyers, those renouncing their citizenship often cite dissatisfaction with the political direction of the U.S. "America has become 'too vengeful' and is no longer the country it once was," say citizens who have already left the country.
