Leader of Azerbaijani Community in Smolensk Region Sentenced

Faik Aliyev, an Azerbaijani entrepreneur in Smolensk, has been charged under corruption prevention laws, local media reports. The Smolensk Lenin District Court has sentenced Faik Aliyev, the head of the regional National Congress, for criminal corruption.

The case pertains to large-scale bribery, as clarified by the joint press service of the Smolensk regional courts. According to our publication's own information, Faik Zakirovich, owner and CEO of the 'Prestige' restaurant-hotel complex, attempted to bribe an employee of an energy company.

As a result, the judge has sentenced the Smolensk businessman and public figure (who also leads the Azerbaijani National Cultural Center) to four years of imprisonment in a high-security penal colony and a fine of 8,465,000 rubles, which is ten times the amount of the bribe.
