We Claim We Are the Oldest, Armenians Claim They Are: Zurabishvili on Armenia
Salome Zurabishvili, the fifth president of Georgia, who was invited to the pre-inauguration reception by Donald Trump Jr., gave an interview to Fox News during which she also spoke about Armenia.
“Georgia is one of the oldest Christian countries in the world, just like Armenia. We claim that we are the oldest, and they claim that they are. But the fact is that we are both ancient Christian countries, and this closely connects us… We need America. But I believe that America needs us as well,” Zurabishvili said.
During the interview, she also commented on Russia's attitude towards the South Caucasus region, noting that Moscow wants to dominate the region and is applying a “new strategy” toward Georgia similar to that used in Romania and Moldova.
