Criminal Proceedings Initiated Based on Controversial Recordings
A recording of a conversation from October 2023 between Archbishop Nathan Hovhannisyan and former staff member of Catholicos Garegin II, Abbot Aghan Yernjakyan, has surfaced online. The Prosecutor General's Office of Armenia has announced that this recording will be subject to investigation within the framework of an ongoing case.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs has reported that the police have submitted a report to the Investigative Committee regarding the crime. As a result of this report, a criminal case has been initiated under Part 3 of Article 236 of the Criminal Code, which pertains to obstructing or coercing individuals from participating in gatherings by using governmental or official authorities, as well as inducing individuals to participate in or refrain from participating in such gatherings.
