Azerbaijani Official Demands OSCE PA President Not to Use the Term 'Nagorno-Karabakh Conflict'

Milli Majlis President Sahiba Gafarova expressed her objections to the use of the term "Nagorno-Karabakh conflict" by representatives of international organizations during her visit to Athens with OSCE Parliamentary Assembly President Margareta Cederfelt. Azerbaijani media reported this, citing the press service of the Milli Majlis.

"The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict has forever entered history. A new phase has begun for Azerbaijan and the region. This is a period of recovery and construction," she stated.

At the same time, she emphasized that, according to a decree signed by President Ilham Aliyev in July of this year, a new division of economic districts has been established in the Republic of Azerbaijan. This decree created two new districts: the Karabakh economic district and the East Zangezur economic district.

According to Gafarova’s reasoning, the conflict should now be referred to as the "East Zangezur-Karabakh" conflict. In reality, with such demarches, the Azerbaijani side is paving the way for a demand for the dissolution of the OSCE Minsk Group, which Baku has been expressing dissatisfaction with for several years.
