A Plan for the Overthrow of the Catholicos Has Been Developed on His Coronation Day: 'Zhoghovurd'
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has set a goal to overthrow the Supreme Patriarch of All Armenians on the day of his coronation, October 27. This is reported by the newspaper 'Zhoghovurd'.
Nikol Pashinyan and his allies are presenting the repressions against the Armenian Apostolic Church as a 'necessity for church transformation' and are determined to take decisive steps regarding the internal governance of the church before October 27.
It should be recalled that on October 27, 1999, the Supreme Patriarch of All Armenians ascended to the throne, and 26 years later, the ruling party has decided to contest the results of the patriarchal elections by launching an attack on the church.
In the meantime, law enforcement officials will continue the pressure on clergymen, especially those related to or close to the Catholicos, as evidenced by the two-month detention of Bishop Mkrtich Prshyan, the Patriarch's nephew, from the Aragatsotn Diocese.
They will also not hesitate to intrude into the church. According to representatives of the government, 'clergymen are also citizens, and if anyone violates the law, they must be held accountable.'
In the near future, the Prime Minister is expected to attend a liturgy at Hovhannavank, organized by Father Aram, who was a catalyst for the detention of 17 clergymen and is sponsored by the ruling party. There, Nikol Pashinyan will launch the victorious start of his program, planning to overthrow Supreme Patriarch Karekin II on the day of his coronation.
