India Plans to Reduce Russian Oil Imports Following Trump’s Statement

India is preparing to reduce its imports of Russian oil amid pressure from U.S. President Donald Trump, reports Reuters, citing sources.

On the previous day, Donald Trump stated that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is willing to cease purchases of Russian oil. Trump added that it is also necessary to ensure that China does the same.

Later, India's External Affairs Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal stated that New Delhi focuses on the interests of its consumers in energy imports. He noted that India is the largest importer of oil and gas, and protecting the interests of Indian consumers is a priority in the context of an unstable energy situation.
