Turkey Set to Receive Energy from Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant Soon

Turkey will soon receive energy from the first reactor of the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant, with new projects under discussion. This announcement was made by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan following a cabinet meeting.

“We will start generating the first electricity at Akkuyu in the very near future. Despite the criticism from the main opposition, we will continue to invest in the nuclear energy sector. There are other projects in our nuclear agenda as well,” Erdoğan stated.

The Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant, built with Russian participation, is Turkey's first nuclear facility, comprising four power units equipped with Russian VVER-1200 reactors. Each power unit will have a capacity of 1200 megawatts. The construction of the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant is the first project in the global nuclear industry being realized under the Build-Own-Operate model.

Specialists completed the construction and assembly work for the first power unit of the plant in March. It is expected to be commissioned within a year.
