Yegishe Melikyan Comments on Loss to Hungary

The head coach of the Armenia national football team, Yegishe Melikyan, has commented on the 0:2 loss to Hungary during the third qualifying match for the World Cup.

“We had many opportunities. It’s unfortunate that we couldn’t achieve a positive result. However, I cannot say that the opponent did not deserve to win. I congratulate them. We will analyze and prepare for the match against Ireland.

We observed some issues, we know, we will analyze them, but the team understood what they were doing, how to defend, press, and create chances. A lot of things were working. For whatever is not working, we will try to resolve it. The final touch issue exists; if our finishing was effective, we would have won. We don’t have a pure number 9 who could score goals, but with tactics and desire, we create our chances. Why are we unable to score? We will analyze that. Today, the most serious reason was the finish of our attacks. We need to score. It was possible not to lose and to take a point.

In the next game, we can rely on our collective effort, our atmosphere, the supporters, our faith, dedication, fight, and organized, disciplined play. There are many positive aspects. With those, we can move forward and achieve a positive outcome,” said Yegishe Melikyan.

The Armenia national team will face Ireland in their next qualifying match on October 14 in Dublin.
