Putin and Aliyev Discussed Many 'Acute Issues': Peskov
Russian President Vladimir Putin and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev have discussed many 'acute issues' in a positive light. This was stated by Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the Russian leader, in response to a question from Vedomosti regarding whether the situation involving the Russians detained in Baku was addressed during their negotiations, and if Azerbaijan is ready to release them.
"All urgent issues on the agenda were positively raised during the conversation," he said.
It should be noted that relations between Moscow and Baku deteriorated six months after the crash of an 'Azerbaijan Airlines' aircraft in December 2024. In the summer of 2025, members of the Azerbaijani diaspora were detained in Yekaterinburg as part of investigations into murders from previous years. Baku responded by detaining Russians in Azerbaijan. Among those arrested were journalists from 'Sputnik Azerbaijan' as well as other Russians suspected of drug trafficking.
