Statement from the 'Mother Armenia' Faction

The 'Mother Armenia' faction of the Gyumri City Council has issued a statement condemning the actions taken against Mayor Vardan Ghukasyan.

The statement indicates: “We assess these attacks as an attempt to destroy the local self-government system and to disregard the votes of the people of Gyumri, whose message to the opposition was to remove the ruling 'Civil Contract' party. Taking this message into account, 'Mother Armenia' contributed to the formation of the new government.

It is clear that Nikol Pashinyan has been deeply affected by the defeat of the 'Civil Contract' party in the recent elections in Gyumri and is attempting to reshape the election results.”

The statement further emphasizes that regardless of the opinions of various political forces regarding the Mayor of Gyumri and the party he represents, the principle of the rule of law must take precedence.
