Nearly 3000 People Deprived of Russian Citizenship Due to Crimes

The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that over 2800 citizens have had their citizenship revoked due to criminal offenses and failure to register for military service. “Since the enforcement of Federal Law No. 138-FZ on Russian Federation Citizenship on April 28, 2023, decisions to revoke citizenship have been made for 2875 individuals,” stated the official spokesperson of the ministry, Irina Volk.

According to Volk, the institution of citizenship revocation primarily aims to enhance the effectiveness of countering individuals who have been granted Russian citizenship and whose activities pose a threat to national and public security.
