Ukraine Secretly Creates Battery Network: WSJ
Ukraine is secretly creating a network of batteries to save electricity following Russian attacks, according to the Wall Street Journal (WSJ). As the country braces for another winter, Ukrainian energy suppliers are relying on a massive battery network designed in the U.S. to bolster the resilience of the grid, stored in undisclosed locations.
With a combined capacity of 200 MW, these battery farms can supply electricity to approximately 600,000 homes for about two hours, equivalent to a city the size of Washington. This energy block could give engineers time to restore service and prevent power outages.
The total cost of these batteries is $140 million. To avoid them becoming targets, the exact locations and security measures are kept confidential.
