Trump Calls Putin's Proposal on Nuclear Weapons Agreement a 'Good Idea'

U.S. President Donald Trump has described Russian President Vladimir Putin's proposal to extend the operational timeline of the nuclear weapons agreement as a "good idea."

"It seems like a good idea to me," Trump stated, citing the White House press service.

Previously, President Putin announced that Moscow is ready to continue adhering to the limitations of the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START) for one year after February 5, 2026. The decision on maintaining voluntary annual self-restraint under START will be made based on an analysis of the situation, the state leader added.

As noted by Putin, Russia believes that compliance actions with the START limitations will yield results if the U.S. also reciprocates.
