Azerbaijani Customs Officers Arrested for Smuggling Medications and Tobacco from Iran

According to a statement from the Prosecutor General's Office of Azerbaijan and the State Customs Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan, customs officers have been arrested for smuggling medications and tobacco from Iran. Azerbaijani media report on this incident.

The investigation raised solid suspicions that Vusal Huseynov, an inspector of the Bilasuvar customs administration of the State Customs Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and Asif Gadzhimuradov, a dog handler for the Azerterminal Association, acted in collaboration with Etibar Khatamli and Iranian citizen Jafar Rezeian to facilitate the smuggling of 400,000 manats worth of medications (including those containing strong and narcotic substances) and tobacco products without excise tax stamps through the use of their official powers under customs control.

Huseynov, Gadzhimuradov, and Khatamli have been detained, while Jafar Rezeian has also been arrested. Investigative and operational-search measures are ongoing.
