We Have Political Persecution, Total Inaction: Aram Vardevanyan

Lawyer Aram Vardevanyan states: "National benefactor Samvel Karapetyan has been unlawfully detained for over 100 days now. In September 2025, several motions and applications were submitted to the head of the investigative group (including to the head of the Investigative Committee) and the head of the prosecution oversight department (including to the Prosecutor General). The main demand is one: to ensure minimal diligence and legality, and to conduct investigative actions.

I can state that the investigation, which has lasted more than 100 days, does not differ in any way from June 17, 2025. In other words, we are facing political persecution, total inaction, solely aimed at the illegal detention, based on what can be termed as Facebook justice.

How many times have I asserted and continue to assert now that there has been no case in Somalia comparable in the scale of illegalities to that of Samvel Karapetyan’s case? Therefore, discussing democratic values in Armenia concerning this case simply becomes the simplest formula for verifying whether we actually live in a democracy."
