Mass Protests Erupt in Argentina
Thousands of people participated in a protest against femicide in Buenos Aires, demanding justice for a girl and two young women who were tortured and murdered, a crime that has shocked Argentina, according to BBC News.
The brutal killings of 15-year-old Lara Gutierrez, as well as 20-year-old Morena Verdi and Brenda del Castillo, were broadcast live on social media. Police believe the crimes are linked to a gang involved in drug trafficking, and the murders were carried out as a warning to others.
Argentina's Minister of National Security, Patricia Bullrich, reported that as of Friday, five suspects had been arrested—three men and two women. However, a 20-year-old Peruvian, who authorities say is the gang leader, remains at large. Investigators believe the victims were lured into a minibus under the pretext of going to a party on September 19, 2025.
Authorities stated that this was a "punishment" plan for violating the gang's rules, intended as a warning to others.
