Israel Responds to Restoration of Counter-Sanctions Against Iran
Israel has welcomed the restoration of "counter-sanctions" against Iran by the UN, calling it an "important event," according to a statement from the Israeli Foreign Ministry, reported by the Times of Israel.
"This is an important step in response to Iran's ongoing violations, particularly within the framework of its military nuclear program. The goal is clear: to prevent a nuclear-armed Iran from emerging. The world must use all means to achieve this objective," the statement read.
The UN restored the arms supply embargo and other sanctions against Iran on Saturday as a result of an initiative led by three major European countries. The UK, France, and Germany have initiated the restoration of sanctions in the UN Security Council based on accusations that Iran has violated the 2015 agreement aimed at halting nuclear bomb development.
Iran denies any intention to develop nuclear weapons and has condemned the imposition of sanctions as illegal.
