Ambiguous Points in Washington Documents Yet to Be Discussed, Says Iranian Ambassador

The Iranian Ambassador to Armenia, Mehdi Sobhani, stated in a press conference that there were initially ambiguous points in the document signed between Armenia and Azerbaijan in Washington, which have mostly been resolved through subsequent bilateral meetings and discussions.

The ambassador noted that the document pertains to the preliminary signing of a peace agreement, which Tehran has consistently supported and welcomed. He emphasized: “The signing of the peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan is something we have always supported and continue to welcome.”

Sobhani indicated that five principles are clearly enshrined in the declaration: national sovereignty, territorial integrity, mutuality, legitimacy, and inviolability of borders. However, he added that there are details on which discussions have yet to take place. “There are also ambiguous points that have not been discussed,” he mentioned.

He stated that the Armenian government has repeatedly declared that it will not take any steps that do not align with the interests of both countries. The leaders of Yerevan and Baku are in close contact and have mutual understanding.
