Judicial System Completely Dependent on Political Power, Says Mother See

The verdict today declaring Archbishop Tigran Mikhailian guilty on apparent trumped-up charges dealt a severe blow to justice in Armenia and the credibility of judicial bodies. This was announced by the Mother See.

“In a country where hate and repression are continually sown, this shameful judicial act once again confirmed that the judicial system in the Republic of Armenia is entirely dependent on the will of political power. It is painful to note that in our homeland, justice is selective and is brazenly directed by political animosity through arbitrary decisions.

The Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin strongly condemns this illegal process and will utilize all legally established avenues to restore justice for Archbishop Tigran. We pray that the Lord strengthens and keeps steadfast both Archbishops Tigran and Bagrat, the renowned national benefactor Mr. Samvel Karapetyan, and all individuals unlawfully deprived of freedom.
