Cameras Analyzed: Ministry of Internal Affairs Reports on Parakar Murder Case
New details have emerged regarding the armed attack in the village of Mrdzavan, part of the enlarged community of Parakar, which resulted in the deaths of Parakar community leader Valodya Grigoryan and Criminal Police officer Karen Abrahamyan.
In a conversation with journalists, spokesperson for the Ministry of Internal Affairs Narek Sargsyan noted that on September 23, around 11:50 PM, the police received a report of gunshots fired on the Yerevan highway in Mrdzavan, and police teams immediately arrived at the scene.
"It has been established that two individuals have died: Parakar community leader Valodya Grigoryan and our colleague, Criminal Police officer Karen Abrahamyan from the Ararat regional department. There is one injured individual, Artur Galstyan, who has been taken to the medical center, has undergone surgery, and according to the information we have received, his life is not in danger at this moment," Sargsyan elaborated.
He denied circulating reports that the injured person was also a police officer. Sargsyan also mentioned that the police officer who died in the attack was not on duty; he simply had a friendly relationship with the community leader and was present with him at the time of the attack.
When asked what actions the police are currently undertaking, Narek Sargsyan responded, "Immediately after receiving the alert, police operational teams arrived at the scene, led by the Minister of Internal Affairs. At this moment, the Minister is in the Vagharsapat department overseeing the operations. Police operational teams are currently conducting operational investigations and taking all necessary measures to clarify all circumstances of the incident."
According to him, hundreds of police officers are working at the scene. "We are currently carrying out joint operations with our colleagues from other agencies. At this point, I cannot provide specifics to avoid hindering the investigative process," Sargsyan stated.
The spokesperson for the Ministry of Internal Affairs emphasized once again that extensive operational investigative actions are being taken, cameras have been analyzed, and checks are underway at the entrances and exits of the republic. Vehicles have been transferred to secure special areas, and conversations are being held with various individuals.
Discussing the details of the armed attack, Narek Sargsyan mentioned that preliminary information suggests that an individual wearing a mask and gloves approached Valodya Grigoryan, Karen Abrahamyan, and Artur Galstyan, who were standing on the street, and opened fire on them.
Regarding circulating rumors that this attack is a vendetta related to a previous crime in Mrdzavan that received widespread public attention, the Ministry spokesperson emphasized that it is still too early to talk about any hypotheses, noting that all put-forward theories are being discussed. "Certain actions have been taken concerning crimes that previously garnered public attention here. I believe we will have an opportunity to discuss that. But I assure you that for the Ministry of Internal Affairs, police, and other law enforcement bodies, it is fundamentally important that all circumstances of the incident are clarified."
