Turkish MP on Opening Borders Between Armenia, Turkey, and Azerbaijan
Fatma Aksal, a member of the Turkish Parliament, stated in a conversation with reporters in Yerevan that a new chapter is opening in the relations between Armenia, Turkey, and Azerbaijan.
“We encourage the initiation of the peace agreement process between Armenia and Azerbaijan. We will all benefit from peace, as it is important not only for our countries but also for the entire South Caucasus. If peace is established in this region, it will have a positive impact on other parts of the world,” said Aksal.
When asked whether a peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan is necessary for Turkey to open its borders, Aksal noted that there are no conditions for the opening of borders. “The establishment of peace and friendly relations between Armenia and Turkey, as well as between Armenia and Azerbaijan, is very important for both sides. Armenia has the opportunity to establish peace between these countries, but we have not set any conditions under which the border would be opened. At this moment, the process continues in a dialogue format, and we hope everything will proceed positively,” she added.
She expressed hope that the borders would open soon and direct flights would increase: “Regarding the borders, we hope that the opening will happen as soon as possible. There are already direct flights, and we are working towards increasing them,” said the Turkish MP.
