Police Officials Accused of Embezzlement and Official Forgery

One individual, who held the position of commander in the police's main division for state protection, is accused of embezzling service-controlled transport fuels valued at 2,236,784 AMD and committing official forgery through misappropriation of resources while on duty.

According to details provided by the Anti-Corruption Committee, it was revealed that the aforementioned official created false exit forms for service vehicles, indicating that between October 26 and November 30, 2024, these vehicles had purportedly traveled an additional 43,000 kilometers, resulting in the embezzlement of 4,247 liters of fuel coupons valued at 1,953,620 AMD.

Additionally, from 2022 to 2024, the same official embezzled a fuel coupon for 240 liters, which was transferred to the director of a vehicle maintenance center operating in Yerevan through a police officer. Furthermore, during 2023-2024, he sold another 320 liters of fuel coupons, also through embezzlement, to another police officer.

The investigation further uncovered that during 2021-2022, the official had instructed a police officer, stationed at another institution, to sign falsified exit documents that claimed the officer attended work during that period, leading to the unauthorized issuance and embezzlement of a total of 275 liters of fuel coupons in the officer's name.

The police official has been charged under Articles 256, Part 2, Points 2 and 3, and Article 445, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia. As a preventive measure, his appointment has been suspended, and a prohibition on leaving has been imposed. Charges have also been brought against three other police officers and the director of the vehicle maintenance center.

The damage exceeding 2 million AMD has been fully restored during the investigation process. The criminal investigation has been completed, and the case materials have been sent to the Anti-Corruption Court of the Republic of Armenia with a prosecutorial conclusion.

Note: An individual accused of a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty in accordance with the law, as outlined by the procedural rules established by the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Armenia, following a legally binding court verdict.
