New Trap for Drivers: Consequences of Signage and Marking Inconsistency

In Yerevan, incomplete road markings often lead to confusion, traffic congestion, and accidents. Citizens who contacted Auroranews report that at the Leo-Paronyan intersection, the ground markings and the 'floating' traffic signs indicate different directions, causing confusion.

Vazgen Harutyunyan from Yerevan's Transport Department told Auroranews that there has been a change in the traffic sign at the Leo-Paronyan intersection, and the work is still ongoing, thus the ground marking has yet to be updated. He acknowledged that the current marking is incorrect and will be corrected. 'The sign was installed a day earlier; today we have announced that a third traffic lane is being added, and they put the sign up prematurely,' said Harutyunyan.

However, citizens insist that the situation has been this way for several days. When asked whether drivers would be fined, the police indicated that in case of complaints, the local authority would decide. They also stated that drivers should be guided by the traffic sign. Drivers are well aware of this, with many believing that misleading drivers is a trap designed for 'milking money.' 'If drivers are to be guided by the traffic sign, then the responsible body should ensure the consistency of the sign and the marking,' drivers assert.
