Georgia Will Not Allow Protests Similar to Those in Ukraine
Protests in Georgia, akin to those that occurred in Ukraine, are being funded by foreign intelligence services, but the country's authorities will not allow such disturbances to recur, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili told reporters.
“All of this is financed by foreign intelligence services, just as it happened with the Maidan. Do you remember how intelligence agencies funded the Maidan, and what happened next? Do you also remember how all this continued in Ukraine? Of course, we cannot allow this scenario to unfold, so it is crucial that we expose all forms of such funding and foreign interference,” Garibashvili stated.
He added that the Georgian authorities would ensure order, and therefore both election day and protests would proceed peacefully. “The main thing is that no one even thinks about breaking the law,” the Prime Minister emphasized.
Local self-government elections in Georgia will take place on October 4. Previously, members of the opposition party, the United National Movement, led by former president Mikheil Saakashvili, have repeatedly stated that there will be a “peaceful revolution” in Georgia on election day, after which the ruling Georgian Dream party will have to resign.
