Russia Continues Efforts for the Return of Armenian Prisoners of War, Says Russian Foreign Ministry

The Russian side continues to work with Yerevan and Baku on the return of Armenian prisoners of war in exchange for the provision of minefield maps, hoping that this will facilitate the normalization of relations between the two countries.

According to a report from Armenpress, Alexey Zaytsev, deputy head of the Information and Press Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, made this statement during a press briefing.

“We are continuing our work on the return of Armenian prisoners of war in exchange for minefield maps. We are confident that a prompt and final resolution of these inflammatory issues will contribute to the improvement of relations between Yerevan and Baku,” he said.

Zaytsev emphasized that Moscow is guided in its efforts by the trilateral statements of the leaders of Russia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan dated November 9, 2020, and January 11, 2021, which are “a reliable guarantee against the recurrence of similar tragic events in the future.”

“In its efforts to stabilize the situation in the region, Russia focuses on the implementation of tasks arising from these trilateral agreements,” added the representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
