Azerbaijani MP on Reasons Behind Failure to Sign Peace Agreement
According to Murad Muradov, an Azerbaijani MP and Deputy Director of the Tophchibashov Analytical Center, the Azerbaijani Constitution contains no territorial claims. However, the Armenian Constitution does stipulate territorial claims held by Armenia. He made these remarks during a conversation with journalists in Yerevan.
Muradov stated that the only reason for the failure to sign a peace agreement could be territorial claims towards Azerbaijan, which are enshrined in the Armenian Constitution.
When asked about Azerbaijan's constant reference to ‘Western Azerbaijan,’ Muradov remarked, “By ‘Western Azerbaijan,’ we mean the preservation and respect for each other’s territorial integrity. It is more of a non-governmental organization that serves the interests of the people and addresses cultural heritage issues. People have lived in those areas for many years and want to visit the graves of their relatives, among other things. This concept mainly serves the cultural heritage and the interests of the people,” he explained.
