New Sanctions Package Will Not Include Restrictions on Oil Purchases from Russia

The EU's new sanctions package against Russia will not include restrictions on the purchase of oil from Russia, stated European Commissioner for Economic and Social Affairs Valdis Dombrovskis.

“The 19th energy sanctions package specifically does not concern oil, but rather liquefied natural gas,” he said at a press conference following an informal meeting of EU economy and finance ministers in Copenhagen.

He emphasized that efforts to completely phase out Russian fossil fuels will continue, but did not specify timelines for the implementation of this strategy.
