Supreme Court Finally Rejects Nadezhdin's Registration as Election Candidate

The Supreme Court of Russia's appellate panel has rejected the appeal of political figure Boris Nadezhdin against the decision of the Central Election Commission (CEC) not to register him as a candidate for the presidency of the Russian Federation, as reported by Interfax.

According to the ruling of the appellate collegium, the decision of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation dated February 21, 2024, remains unchanged, and the appeal has not been satisfied,” said a court representative.

Initially, Nadezhdin had contested the CEC's decision from February 8, 2024, which denied his registration as a candidate for the presidency of the Russian Federation. In the first instance, Nadezhdin urged the court to annul the CEC's decision and compel the commission to register him.

Nadezhdin, nominated by the Civil Initiative party, submitted documentation and voter signatures in support of his candidacy to the CEC on January 31, 2024. He claimed that he presented 105,000 signatures collected from across Russia. Following an audit, over 15% of the signatures submitted by Nadezhdin were recognized as invalid.
