Foreign Ministry Does Not Comment on Possibility of Continuing Border Delimitation with Azerbaijan in Syunik
The authorities of Armenia have not commented on the likelihood of continuing the border delimitation with Azerbaijan in Syunik in response to a query from Sputnik Armenia.
“We had previously written that the latest official reports indicate that the border delimitation between Armenia and Azerbaijan could continue in the south rather than in the Tavush direction, as had been previously agreed upon by the parties. The fact is that on September 5, 2025, delegations from both countries visited each other under the leadership of Armenia's Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan and Azerbaijan's Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev. The official report stated that, in accordance with the agreements reached on August 8, 2025, in Washington, the parties discussed issues related to the delimitation of the relevant sections of the border and demining, as well as the timelines for the restoration and construction of necessary infrastructure, with the aim of synchronizing actions in the field of communications.
Later, Mher Grigoryan's office clarified to Sputnik Armenia that the delegations of Armenia and Azerbaijan visited “the southern territories of Syunik province and the Zangezur region.” When asked specifically which regions were discussed in the context of delimitation, demining, and infrastructure works, there was no direct answer. We were only informed that “these issues are under discussion.”
In this regard, we sent a new inquiry, this time addressed to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. However, the Prime Minister's office redirected the inquiry to the Deputy Prime Minister's office, which then forwarded it to the Foreign Ministry. “Information about the work of the commissions on the delimitation of the border between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan is presented in a proper manner and within deadlines in official statements,” the Foreign Ministry replied.
