Trump and von der Leyen Discuss Strengthening Pressure on Russia
The President of the European Commission spoke with U.S. President Donald Trump, after which she announced the strengthening of pressure on Russia. "I had an effective conversation with President Trump regarding our joint efforts to reinforce economic pressure on Russia through additional measures," said Ursula von der Leyen.
Following the conversation with Trump, von der Leyen stated that the Commission will soon present the 19th package of sanctions against Russia, targeting cryptocurrencies, banks, and the energy sector. "Russia's war economy, which is fueled by fossil fuel revenues, finances the bloodshed in Ukraine. To put an end to this, the Commission will propose to accelerate the phased halt of Russian fossil fuel imports," she wrote.
