Israel Seeks to Strike Iran via Syria
According to Axios, the main principle of Israel's proposal to the Syrian government is the preservation of an air corridor leading to Iran through Syria, which would allow future strikes on Iran.
The publication also notes that Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu is interested in organizing a meeting with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa within the framework of the UN General Assembly.
Previously, Israel had offered Syria a new security agreement, Axios reports. This proposal is based on the 1979 peace treaty with Egypt, which includes the establishment of a demilitarized zone and an area free of flights southwest of Damascus, in exchange for Israel withdrawing from most of the Syrian-occupied territories (except for Mount Hermon), the publication notes.
Negotiations continue under U.S. mediation, and Syria is preparing a counter-proposal.
